Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, November 19th:

DSM, the Dutch life and materials sciences company, has been named to the Number One position in the chemical industry sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.  After initial publication of the 2010 scores in September, SAM, the Swiss sustainability investment boutique that compiles the Dow Jones Indexes, reviewed the scores and has announced a reassessment that puts DSM at the top of the list, as it had been listed in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009. In 2007 and 2008 the company ranked among the top leader in the sector.

Unilever has launched its Sustainable Living Plan, a program that sets out over 50 social, economic, and environmental targets. They include goals to cut in half green house gas emissions, water, and waste used by the company in its direct operations and also by its suppliers and consumers.  Other key goals include sourcing 100 percent of its agricultural raw materials sustainably, making safe drinking water available by extending sales of its low-cost, in-home water purifier, and working with Oxfam, the Rainforest Alliance, and other nonprofits to link over 500,000 smallholder farmers and small-scale distributors into its supply chain.
