CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, May 19th:

Four months after the earthquake in Haiti, Americans have donated $1.3 billion dollars for relief there, almost equal to the amount given after the Asian tsunami of 2004. More than half the total, $444 million dollars, has been raised by the American Red Cross while Catholic Relief Services has collected $136 million dollars. The cost of reconstruction in Haiti has been estimated at $14 billion dollars. So far, nations have pledged $9.9 billion dollars, including $1.15 billion dollars from the U.S.

Ford has reduced its use of paper made from virgin wood sources by 6,000 tons in the past year. The results were achieved through an increase of paper from recycled content for all consumer and employee printing projects. Beginning this year, 2.2 million Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicle owner manuals will be printed annually on paper containing at least ten percent recycled fiber and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC-certified paper reduces waste to landfills and ensures that paper pulp is not harvested from endangered rainforest timber. Also, FSC paper is produced domestically, supporting U.S. jobs.
