Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Monday, May 10th:  

Jamey Boiter, writing for Fast Company, has some strong advice for BP in the wake of their oil spill off the coast of Louisiana two weeks ago. “Forget your brand’s image,” he urges the company. “And concentrate on your brand’s soul.” The article notes that few brands have been as consistent as BP in their approach to creating a progressive and sustainable brand. The problem is, it's not about the brand or the image, according to Boiter. It’s about walking the talk. If they want to keep their reputation as a green company, BP should concentrate on fixing what happened in the Gulf before working on fixing its image.

Publix Super Markets has set up a donation program to help victims of the recent floods and tornadoes in Tennessee and Alabama. Customers can contribute at checkout registers to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Publix is also collecting food items for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Nashville, and is donating $25,000 dollars worth of food products to Feed the Children. In a separate effort, Publix Super Markets Charities has donated $100,000 to the Red Cross for its relief efforts.
