Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, November 17th:

Sustainable design will be a main focus at the Build Boston Conference and Tradeshow, the annual gathering of the design and construction industry sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects which opens today. Registration numbers are high for the Passive House and Biomimicry symposiums. The Passive House is based on the idea that thermal comfort can be achieved to a maximum extent through passive measures. Biomimicry uses sustainable solutions drawn from natural patterns and strategies. Build Boston runs through this Friday.

General Mills has announced progress in its environmental sustainability goals for fiscal year 2010, and new goals for 2015. For this fiscal year, the company has reduced water usage by nine percent, solid waste generation by 33 percent, energy consumption by six percent, and greenhouse gas emissions by eight percent. Goals for 2015 are set at double digit decreases, from 20 to 50 percent. The four areas measure the company’s global manufacturing operations.
