CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, May 12th

Citi has partnered with the Calvert Foundation and the Opportunity Finance Network to launch the Communities at Work Fund, a $200 million dollar fund that will focus on small business lending in low-income U.S. communities. The fund will provide financing to Community Development Financial Institution Loan Funds that will then lend to local businesses. CDFI Loan Funds have a 30-year history of working as effective channels for creating economic opportunities in underserved communities, providing $16 billion dollars in loans to over 48,000 small businesses.

Climate Counts’ “Green Watching” campaign to monitor media companies has gotten a response from global media giant, the News Corporation. News Corp notes that it scores at the top of the list for media companies in Climate Counts’ rankings, with twice as many points as the next media company rated, Time Warner. News Corp’s Global Energy Initiative commits the company to reducing its energy consumption, switching to renewable sources of power, and becoming carbon neutral this year. Climate Counts notes that scores in the media category overall are relatively low, compared to other sectors, with News Corp. earning 68 out of a possible 100 points.
