Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Thursday, November 4th:

The city of Atlanta has outlined a plan to make Atlanta a top ten city for sustainability in the U.S. The plan, titled “Power to Change,”  sets sustainability benchmarks for all city departments, such as the reduction of fuel usage and water system leakage. In addition, new initiatives will create green jobs, add transit development, and reduce food “deserts” in city neighborhoods where access to locally grown produce is limited.

The Australian Food and Grocery Council and the government of the state of Victoria  have partnered to improve the sustainability of that country’s $102 billion dollar food and grocery manufacturing industry. Under the Sustainability Covenant, EPA Victoria, Sustainability Victoria, and AFGC will commit $500,000 dollars over three years to support food and grocery manufacturers in reducing water use, energy use, and waste production. Victoria is known as Australia’s “food bowl”; one-third of that country’s food comes from the state.
