Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, May 14th:

The city of Santa Monica has announced its 15th Annual Sustainable Quality Awards. The two Grand Prize winners were Co-opportunity, a natural foods grocer, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Co-opportunity won for its sustainable practices and its employee benefits program. NRDC was honored for 20 years of service to environmental causes, its LEED Platinum Certified building, and its Environmental Action Center. The awards are presented by the City of Santa Monica, the Chamber of Commerce, and Sustainable Works.  

EcoStrategy Group, a sustainability communications consulting company, has issued a study outlining the five attributes that make a great sustainability report. The paper analyzes how top Bay Area companies report on their sustainability efforts, and rates their performance based on 14 specific attributes, including materiality, stakeholder relevance, and setting and tracking targets. To the question “Why companies report?” EcoStrategy offers two answers: to respond to the increasing volume of inquires, and to manage reputation and brand image.
