Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Tuesday, October 5th:

The City of Cleveland has passed a law tying triple bottom line practices to local business opportunities. Sustainable Cleveland-area companies taking part in the Green Plus program can now gain a 4 percent bid discount when pursuing contracts with the city. Green Plus is a non-profit, third-party certification designed by Duke, the University of North Carolina, and chambers of commerce to help small business become more competitive through sustainable business practices. The Institute of Sustainable Development, a North Carolina Research Triangle initiative, and the Council of Smaller Enterprises are working with the city to put the law into action.

Daiichi Sankyo Company, the global, Japan-based pharmaceutical company, has been included for the first time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Asia Pacific. The DJSI Asia Pacific includes 71 Japanese companies among its top 141 regional sustainability leaders, selected from Asia’s 600 biggest companies. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes track the financial performance of companies worldwide, evaluating them through analysis of corporate economic, environmental, and social performance.
