CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Thursday, May 27th:

Three-quarters of consumers in a new survey give companies only an average or below average grade on how they’re engaging customers around key sustainability issues, according to the 2010 Cone Shared Responsibility Study, released last week by Cone LLC. The report states that 84 percent of Americans believe their ideas can help companies create products and services that are a win for consumers, business, and society, yet only half, 53 percent, feel companies encourage them to speak up on corporate social and environmental practices and products. 60 percent of those surveyed say they would be more likely to buy a company’s goods and services if that company incorporated their ideas about sustainability.

Naturally Advanced Technologies has raised $1.4 million dollars US to expand its business. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Crailar Fiber Technologies, the company is developing proprietary practices in collaboration with Canada’s National Research Council and the Alberta Research Council. Crailar technology offers cost-effective and environmentally sustainable processing and production of natural, bast fibers such as hemp and flax for use in textile, industrial, energy, medical, and composite material applications.
