Hello, I’m Gretchen Siegchrist, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, July 21st:

Delhaize America, parent company of several supermarket chains including Hannaford, Sweetbay, and Food Lion, has announced that its brands will operate under a new sustainable seafood sourcing program, selling seafood from sources that are managed to sustain the viability of fish species. The new policy requires suppliers to verify sourcing seafood and encourages local sourcing. The requirement applies to all seafood in the supermarkets, including fresh, frozen, and packaged fish and shellfish. All suppliers are to be compliant with the program by March 31st, 2011.

The World Bank and India have signed two agreements for a total loan of $407 million dollars to scale up microfinance services in unbanked areas and improve capacity to generate quality statistics. The funding will enable microfinance institutions to leverage private commercial funds to lend larger amounts to the under-served. The two projects will be implemented by the Small Industries Development Bank of India over a period of five year.
