CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, June 25th:

Evocative Design has produced its first sustainable packaging material for Steelcase, one of the world’s largest suppliers of office furniture. Evocative’s biodegradable packaging foam is made from agricultural byproducts held together by mushroom roots that act as glue to bind seed husks, cotton waste, and other vegetative waste. The biomaterials replace oil-based packaging foam typically used to ship heavy products. The new packaging foam will be used as corner guards to ship Steelcase’s ready-to-assemble office furniture. Steelcase is replacing all its oil-based foam with eco-friendly materials.

Six local and international firms have applied to offer banking services in Colombia that include microfinance. Applicants approved by the Colombian Superintendent of Finance will be able to have their customers covered by government deposit insurance. The only applicant to have made a public announcement is the Banco Pichincha of Ecuador, which has operated a  microfinance department, Credi Fe, since 1999. Credi Fe reported assets of $234 million dollars and 85,000 active borrowers in 2008.
