CAMPAIGN: The CSR Minute

CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Monday, June 21st:

IKEA has announced that it will stop selling incandescent light bulbs in its stores as of August 1st. The home furnishings retailer will focus on selling compact fluorescent, halogen, and L-E-D lighting. All Ikea stores are to be incandescent-free by January 1, 2011. Ikea notes that if every U.S. household replaced just one incandescent bulb with a CFL bulb, enough electricity would be saved to light three million homes for one year.

George Washington University’s School of Business has hired a new dean, Doug Guthrie, who has announced that he will focus on leadership, corporate social responsibility, and ethics. Guthrie, whose background includes teaching at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Harvard Business School, Stanford, and Columbia, will ask GWU business students to “think more broadly about the role of the corporation in society.” GWU joins Harvard Business School in naming a new dean with specialties in ethics and leadership.
