Hello, I’m Gretchen Siegchrist, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Thursday, April 22nd:

McKesson Corporation is supporting the American Diabetes Association’s efforts to raise awareness of the disease among school children. As part of the company’s 12th annual Community Days corporate citizenship program, McKesson employee volunteers at 130 company sites will assemble 32,000 “Stop Diabetes” care packages for fourth and fifth grade students in local schools. The packages will include jump ropes, pedometers, water bottles, and customized comic books that encourage healthier eating habits and more active lifestyles. McKesson is the country’s largest healthcare services company.

Sodexo is asking its 10 million U.S. customers to eat low on the food chain this Earth Day by eating just one all plant-based meal. To help with the effort, Sodexo chefs have cooked up new versions of that classic, the peanut butter and jelly combination. Estimates are that Sodexo’s PB&J For a Day campaign could save 1.3 billion gallons of water, 12,400 tons of carbon emissions, and about 5,500 acres of land, if all of the 10 million customers served daily by Sodexo choose one plant-based meal. The PB&J campaign is a project of Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs.
