Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Tuesday, August 31st:

Apple has refused to sign on to the UK’s first mobile phone eco index, launched by O2. The index was developed in collaboration with major manufacturers and is coordinated by O2, a subsidiary of Telefonica, and the Forum for the Future, a UK sustainability think tank. O2’s research reports that 44% of consumers now consider sustainability performance in their purchase decision for mobile phones. O2 now has more than 21 million subscribers in the UK, and plans for the O2 eco index to be rolled out across the entire Telefonica communications group.

Students at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, will start their school year today by learning about and participating in community service in a program called “From Day One: Making a Difference.” Fortune 500 company leaders will speak with students about social responsibility in the corporate world. Participating companies include IBM, Fidelity, Monster Worldwide, National Grid, and Ocean Spray.  Then students will do volunteer work with greater-Boston area nonprofits. Today’s program, a partnership with the Lewis Institute, also includes a sustainable meal and a keynote speech from the founders of an organic baby food company.
