CVS has announced an April schedule for Project Health, “Projecto Salud” in Spanish, a wellness program aimed at delivering more than $21 million dollars worth of free health screenings to multicultural communities throughout 2012. As part of National Minority Health Month, CVS pharmacies will offer the free screenings at select stores in African American and Latino communities. The program aims to prevent disease through early detection, and ensure that cost is not a barrier to diagnostic services.
Walmart has launched its Women in Factories program, a five-year initiative for 60,000 women working in plants in India, Bangladesh, China, and Central America that supply products to the retailer. The program, to be implemented in partnership with local NGOs, will teach life skills related to communication, reproductive health, and occupational health and safety. 8,000 women will also receive leadership training for career development.
