The Conference Board has released a study on the comparative sustainability practices of 476 Chinese enterprises and multinational corporations doing business in China. The report, “Business and Sustainability in China,” outlines the steps being taken by private companies to align with the Chinese government’s increasing focus on sustainable development. Among its findings are that cost concerns represent the strongest barrier to sustainability programs, and that government directives are the decisive factor in defining corporate sustainability strategies.

Design for Social Innovation, a new program of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, is now accepting applications for its first class of students. The MFA degree integrates ethics, sustainability issues, game, social movement and communication design to equip designers for socially innovative work in business, mission-based nonprofits, and government organizations. The Design for Social Innovation MFA is the first degree of its kind for graduate-level professional design and sustainability training. Designers, graduates in other disciplines, social entrepreneurs, and business professional are encouraged to apply. Applications are due by January 30th.
