(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) New York - June 10, 2011 - Today, against the backdrop of its 12th annual national day of volunteer service known as IMPACT Day,  Deloitte is celebrating the fulfillment of its three-year, $50 million pledge to Billion+ Change, a federal initiative to encourage American businesses to champion pro bono work by complementing their philanthropy with the contribution of in-kind services.  Nearly three-quarters of the organization’s personnel, which numbers more than 50,000 in total, are setting aside their work to volunteer at more than 800 events nationwide.

As part of IMPACT Day and to commemorate its pro bono accomplishment, Deloitte is hosting pro bono forums in several major markets across the country, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.  Hundreds of civic leaders, nonprofit executives and corporate philanthropists will be on hand at Deloitte’s offices to discuss how the business community can help address social issues through the contribution of skills based and professional talent.  To guide the discussion, Deloitte professionals will draw on key insights learned over the past three years. These learnings are also highlighted in a new report documenting the organization’s journey to complete its multi-million dollar pro bono commitment, titled Community – it’s our business.”

“IMPACT Day is a culmination of our year-round commitment to strengthen nonprofit capacity,” said Evan Hochberg, national leader of Deloitte’s community involvement initiative.  “This year we celebrate the successful completion of our pro bono commitment and have plans in place for even more pro bono projects, as we also encourage other businesses to contribute their skills and knowledge.”

Since 2008, Deloitte has expanded its approach to community involvement by offering its business knowledge to help nonprofits address strategic, operational and financial issues that may limit their ability to achieve their social missions. The company’s innovative pro bono initiative is often cited as a model for other businesses looking to establish similar programs.

“Over the past three years, we have witnessed the very real impact of pro bono service on nonprofits and communities,” added Hochberg. “We believe that if conversations between corporate grant makers and nonprofits are bound by financial support alone, both parties will have overlooked an important asset: professional skills and knowledge. The purpose of IMPACT Day is to celebrate Deloitte’s long-term commitment to our communities, and these pro bono forums are a big part of our goal to spark this important and much needed dialogue.”

IMPACT Day is a deeply rooted symbol of the value Deloitte places on volunteer service.  On IMPACT Day, tens of thousands of Deloitte volunteers participate in a wide variety of both traditional “hands-on” volunteer projects, such as painting, landscaping and renovation projects, as well transferring  “skills-based” learning.
