(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Los Angeles, CA – November 10, 2011 – Domtar Corporation (NYSE: UFS) (TSX: UFS) today announced the evolution of its EarthChoice® brand at the Opportunity Green Business Conference, America’s leading sustainability conference, taking place at Los Angeles Center Studios November 10-11th.

EarthChoice, first launched in 2005, was the first-ever Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®) certified and Rainforest Alliance Certified™ paper-line in North America. This vanguard initiative is now being followed by the next generation of the EarthChoice offering, and with it Domtar is further demonstrating its commitment to sustainability as a core business strategy.
 
EarthChoice embodies Domtar's belief that informed choices lead to better, more sustainable lives and a better world.  EarthChoice represents the perpetual dialogue that Domtar has with its customers and stakeholders and is a reminder that sustainability is a process, not a destination.  EarthChoice means increasing responsibility for the entire lifecycle - from the forest, through responsible production and usage, and recycling.

The evolved EarthChoice brand also includes a partnership with RecycleBank aimed at reducing impacts across the fiber cycle via a Learn & Earn educational module. The partnership with RecycleBank helps bridge the gap between intention and action by educating, motivating and rewarding consumers for taking small green steps toward a more eco-conscious lifestyle. RecycleBank’s municipal and brand partnerships have garnered recognition across a wide spectrum of outlets, from local and national media to global accolades from the United Nations and the World Economic Forum.
 
Additional initiatives announced at Opportunity Green under the EarthChoice banner include:
  • The Paper Trail: Domtar’s innovative online tool that lets customers measure the environmental impact of their paper choices. In addition to mill-level environmental indicators, the Paper Trail also offers up stories behind the manufacturing process that provide a qualitative snapshot of the socio-economic impacts of the featured Domtar mills in their host communities.

  • Print and Pixel Logic: An info-graphic that provides a fun, informative and practical decision tree for those looking for guidance on responsible paper use.

  • EarthChoice Advisory Services: A sustainable business management consulting practice for Domtar customers with topics that include paper procurement policy analysis and development, forest management and third-party certification, brand and reputation protection, papermaking and environmental management, and more.

As part of the company’s presence at Opportunity Green, Domtar’s Lewis Fix is speaking on a panel entitled “The New Art of Collaboration,” on Thursday, November 10th, from 2:25 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. PST. The panel is moderated by long-time environmental and social issues journalist, Tom Kostigen, and also features Tensie Whelan, President, Rainforest Alliance and Sue Igoe, Senior Vice President, RecycleBank.
 
Panelists will address best practices in partnering with NGOs as sustainability in business continues to evolve. In addition, they will also examine the role of a new form of organization – the social enterprise. Domtar recognizes the importance of key partnerships and strategic counsel in today’s sustainable business world. Organizations like RecycleBank and the Rainforest Alliance provide a living example on how to help customers and stakeholders make informed choices to lead better, more sustainable lives.
