General Electric will provide sustainable energy to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London next year. GE software has improved the efficiency and reliability of the smart grid serving East London, where the Olympic Park is being built, and other businesses within GE have provided advanced energy systems, high-tech lighting solutions, state-of-the-art healthcare equipment, and electric car charging points. Organizers are claiming that the London 2012 event will be the greenest-ever Games.

Sanofi, the pharmaceutical company, confirmed its commitment to fight malaria at its 10th Pan-African Conference against Malaria, held last week. Attendees included representatives from 34 African countries; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria; the World Health Organization; the Roll Back Malaria Partnership; and scientific and health experts. Malaria is the third leading cause of mortality in African children, and 90 percent of the 800,000 deaths from the disease in 2009 were in Africa.
