(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) May 10, 2011 - In response to the devastating storms that recently swept the Southern United States, General Mills and the General Mills Foundation today announced a commitment of more than $600,000 to support disaster relief and rebuilding efforts. The financial and in-kind commitment will be made to the American Red Cross and Feeding America. Of the total contribution, $100,000 will go the American Red Cross, and $50,000 cash and nearly $500,000 in product donations will go to Feeding America to help feed those impacted by the storms as well as to feed volunteer relief workers in the affected communities.

"Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones and those who have been affected by the overwhelming damage caused by the severe weather that recently swept the Southern United States," said Ellen Goldberg Luger, vice president and General Mills Foundation executive director. "We are eager to do what we can through our financial commitment and product donations to help speed the recovery and bring relief to the families who need it most."
