TOPIC: Human Behaviour in Risk Management
Plenary Session 3 at
Intergovernmental Forum on Risk Management 2010
WHEN: Wednesday, September 15 at 10:45 a.m
WHERE: Ottawa
Priority Code: 3BL1

Clearly arrogance, greed, dishonesty, incompetence, and anger are major causes of corporate catastrophes. It is human behavior which creates corporate “suicide bombers” – those who blow themselves and their companies along with other “collaterals” (Nick Leeson of Barings Bank, A team of Enron and Arthur Anderson, Bernie Madoff of Madoff In-vestments) What should be the role of ERM in this context? How can the risk management function protect the organization from these dangerous behaviours?

Mohammed Siddiqui will present his views on this major challenge confronting all ERM professionals, and discuss potential ways for ERM to deal with the intricate interconnections, correlation between sources of risks, and human reactions to risks and opportunities.
