Facebook recently announced the launch of Facebook Deals, which offers customers special promotions when checking in to participating businesses through Facebook Places. REI is one of the participating launch companies, and we're happy to provide an opportunity to introduce more customers to the exciting programs and accomplishments of our nonprofit partners.

Here’s how it works: Beginning today, for every customer who checks in at an REI store through Facebook Places, REI will donate $1 to a selected nonprofit in that community, up to $100,000.

How did we select our local partners? Our stores work with a variety of organizations doing great work in each of our communities. For Facebook Deals, we chose nonprofits that we had existing relationships with through our locally driven grants programs. The money provided to our partners through Facebook Deals will build upon the $3.7 million in grant funding that REI has already supplied to nonprofit partners this year. Each of these organizations is working to preserve the outdoor spaces in their community through volunteerism and service project opportunities.
