(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) August 3, 2010 - Barilla Group has released its first Sustainability Report. This report defines a series of indicators to measure social and environmental performance and in particular defines the targets that Barilla intends to achieve over the coming five years. It has been published corresponding to the GRI G3 guidelines.

The report is available at http://www.reportalert.info/ra/profiles/Barilla/2010/?ID=32299.

The desire to experiment with an innovative method led the Group to establish a partnership with FONDACA- Active Citizenship Foundation (a research and training organization specialising in corporate sustainability).

Stakeholders were involved from the outset of the reporting process, two years ago. Key stakeholder representatives made recommendations for the development of the report at two separate forums, and a Barilla ‘sustainability model’ has been developed with corporate commitments, challenges and goals. This entire process, involving the company and its key stakeholders, has taken two years of work – the reason this first report is based on the year 2008.

This first Barilla Sustainability Report represents a key marker in the Group’s journey towards renewing its corporate culture and approach to business. The Group’s longer-term objective is the active participation of all departments in the corporate reporting process, so that sustainability is reflected across all business strategies.

Barilla ranks as one of today’s leading Italian food groups. Barilla owns 54 production facilities (14 in Italy and 40 outside Italy) and exports to more than 125 countries. Every year, over 2,500,000 tons of food products under the brands of Barilla, Mulino Bianco, Voiello, Pavesi, Alixir, Academia Barilla, Wasa, Harry’s (France and Russia), Lieken Urkorn, Golden Toast and Kamps (Germany), Misko (Greece), Filiz (Turkey), Yemina and Vesta (Mexico), are featured on dining tables all over the world.
