(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) December 20, 2010 - Fibria Celulose, the world’s leading producer of market pulp, has issued its first Sustainability Report, describing the company’s achievements and challenges in the economic, financial, social and environmental spheres during 2009.

The information presented in the report is based on a Materiality Matrix, derived from a survey of Fibria’s various stakeholders. A total of 85 individuals, inside and outside the company, highlighted the issues they considered to be most important to the company’s sustainability:

- Impact of plantations on biodiversity;
- Certification and voluntary commitments;
- Ethics;
- Water use;
- Sustainability strategy/commitments;
- Relationship with the neighbouring communities;
- Forest partners (wood suppliers);
- Environmental risks;
- Emissions, effluent and waste;
- Relationship with specific communities;

The final document also included statements from members of the neighbouring communities, as well as the observations and suggestions of independent experts who analyzed the report. It was then submitted for verification by Bureau Veritas Certification, to ensure that the information met Global Reporting Initiative (GRI G3) quality guidelines, and was classified as B+.

You can obtain full and summarized versions of the report on-line at http://www.reportalert.info/ra/profiles/Fibria/2010/?ID=32000.

The result of the merger between Aracruz Celulose and Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP), Fibria operates 6 mills with a total annual production capacity of 5.4 million tons of pulp and 358,000 tons of thermal, carbonless, printing and writing papers.

With plantations in seven different states, Fibria has a total forest base of 1.04 million hectares, of which 393,000 have been set aside for permanent preservation.
