(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) June 28, 2011 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has just published its third Sustainable Development Report, GRI checked at Application Level C. The report is available at  www.stm.info/English/en-bref/a-dd.htm

The results presented in the STM’s 2008, 2009 and 2010 sustainable development reports demonstrated that sustainable development is managed efficiently and effectively, in both day-to-day activities and development projects.
In 2010, the STM’s structured approach led to the formulation of a sustainable development corporate policy.

Among the highlights presented in the report:

  • Annual trips (bus and metro combined) rose 1.5%, to a total of 389 million. Correspondingly, some 510,000 tonnes of GHG emissions were avoided throughout the island of Montréal.

  • Some 700 bicycle racks were added next to metro stations.

  • The work-related accident frequency dropped 9% (36% compared with 2006), as a result of workplace health and safety initiatives.

  • The STM hosted a forum, where we met with the spokespeople of some 40 organizations to determine their needs and integrate them into our development projects.

  • The company acquired goods and services that supported 3,838 jobs, bringing the total number of jobs sustained to more than 12,800.

  • The employee mobilization index showed spectacular improvement: 27 points relative to 2006.

The full report is available in electronic format. Only a six-page summary of the highlights has been printed. A table supplementing the report contains over 70 sustainable development indicators that attest to the quality and seriousness of the STM’s approach in this regard.
