Risk management has been characterized by many as the development of plans to deal with high probability events with limited potential outcomes. This approach fails to account for higher uncertainty, highly unlikely, and hard to predict events with potentially catastrophic consequences. These “black swans” often become crisis management issues.

Barry Cross will outline a proven ten-step approach to crisis management, and he’ll position risk and crisis management within an “uncertainty matrix.” This matrix helps define how risk management relates to crisis management, and the contribution risk managers can make beyond more traditional risks.
