As a military wife and mom, I know the sacrifices military families make as their loved ones defend our freedom. As a matter of fact it was at a recent get-together to celebrate the homecoming of my 25-year old son, Nate, from Afghanistan and at the same time honor and say goodbye to my husband of 24 years, Gary, who was being deployed by the Army, that I learned about the outreach of one of Sodexo’s Military Employee Network Group’s, HONOR
 
A friend of mine, Julie is part of HONOR and the group was looking for someone to sponsor as a runner at the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon. Community outreach was one of the mission’s for the group and Julie thought sponsoring a runner for Sodexo’s team would be a great way for HONOR to get a face in the crowd at the race which they call the “People’s Marathon” because it’s open to anyone. Of the 30,000+ runners, I would be the face that reminded Sodexo why they did what they did every day in their Government segment.
 
I’ve been running for 14 years and I’ve done 5 marathons and many half marathons already – really, I got into running to prove a point to my doctors and I never stopped. Did I want to start training again? Did I want to focus on this at this point in my life? Then, I thought what better way to show tribute to those who can no longer run and honor my three boys (my youngest son Zachary is also in the military).
