Driven by evolving market conditions, consumer expectations, global policy, and a wide variety of progressive business sustainability action in 2010, supply chain management will continue to evolve in the coming year. 

2010 marked a growing trend in progressive supply chain organizations towards increased supply chain transparency.  Placing a greater emphasis on environmental and social responsibility actions within in the supply chain, integrated business sustainability-driven efforts are creating new strategic sourcing criteria and procurement guidelines.
 
The 2011 supply chain will be marked by increase environmental and social risk management and value creation. Leveraging Wal-Mart’s Sustainability Index as a template for discussion, the coming year will refine and expand these integrated sustainability concepts. 
 
•    Reduce operational and logistic energy costs and emissions.
 
•    Increase material efficiency through reduce waste and enhance quality.
