The evolution of supply chain management over the past few decades has transformed procurement actions from pure price concessions to jointly-focused cost reduction and process improvement. Building on these practices, the business sustainability generation has begun to integrate sustainability concepts into the supply chain to evaluate risk and long-term value from an expanded stakeholder perspective.  

With most supply chain organizations focused on visibility as a path to cost savings, leaders in the field center on business sustainability alignment as the key to long-term value.  Described in greater detail, the post, Corporate Procurement: Loving the Long-Term, illustrates how the range of supply chain management strategies continues to expand.  As pure procurement savings decline, more advanced areas of business sustainability begin to be explored.  Some aligned business sustainability strategies include:
