Pakistan's Catastrophic Flooding

Helping those in need.

On July 29, unusually strong monsoon rains in Pakistan caused massive flooding across the region, which led to the death of approximately 1,600 people. Severe rains have continued to wash away homes and businesses leaving thousands without basic necessities or their livelihoods.

It is estimated that about 13.8 million people are affected with nearly half of those needing some type of humanitarian aid to survive.

Last year, UPS announced a multi-million-dollar global humanitarian relief strategy encompassing substantial financial grants, in-kind services and logistics expertise aimed at expanding the capacity and capability of organizations responding to global emergencies. The company committed up to $9 million for 2009 and 2010. This commitment solidified strategic global partnerships with some of the world’s most respected relief organizations, including the American Red Cross, UNICEF, World Food Programme, CARE and Aidmatrix Foundation, providing aid in the face of disasters like the one is Pakistan.

Right now, these organizations are working with companies like UPS to mobilize relief supplies to help the victims.
