Torrance, Calif., May 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ -  Volunteers joined Balfour Beatty Construction on Saturday, May 3, to repair and spruce up school campuses in the Redondo, Torrance, Culver City, and Wiseburn Unified School Districts as part of Los Angeles County’s 11th Annual Sharefest Workday. Among the group were more than 350 Balfour Beatty Construction employees, contractors, vendors, school staff, students, and community members. The improvements, with an estimated value of $200,000, were made – all at no cost to the schools or taxpayers.

This is the fifth year the company has been involved with this uplifting community activity. Additional financial support was provided through the Balfour Beatty Construction/Sharefest’s 2nd annual Golf Tournament which contributed more than $82,000 to help fund the improvement projects and also benefitted  Sharefest’s Youth Development Academy, a summer program offering academic and extracurricular activities to underserved middle and high school students.

Volunteers began their workday at 7 a.m. and continued until 6:00 p.m. The effort included cleanup, general painting, murals, planting, upgrades, and landscaping at Culver City High School, Culver City Unified School District; Anza Elementary School, Torrance Unified School District; District Office, Redondo Beach Unified School District; and Da Vinci Innovation Academy, Wiseburn Unified School District. “Sharefest Workday showcases the voluntary, heart-felt contributions of our employees and suppliers who want to make a difference,” said Brian Cahill, southwest division president. “Our company promotes a spirit of generosity, and Sharefest aligns perfectly with our commitment to enriching the communities where we live and build.”
