OUR SOCIAL COMMITMENT
In our opinion, entrepreneurial spirit and a social conscience go hand in hand. We are therefore committed to helping our community – through donation campaigns, cultural promotion, and sports sponsorship.
EMERGENCY RELIEF IN AFRICA
Every year, our guests support social projects in crisis regions by participating in the New Year's Eve raffle. In 2011, they donated over €64,000. We rounded this up to €100,000 and handed the total over to the emergency relief program of the charitable organization SOS-Kinderdorf e.V in East Africa. The money benefits refugee families affected by the long-standing severe famine in Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia and who have found refuge in Ethiopia. One thousand of the neediest families were provided with emergency shelter, food, and medicine thanks to the donations collected.
CULTURE AT LOCAL LEVEL AND ON BOARD
AIDA Cruises' targeted commitment to art and culture over many years testifies to its social responsibility. Since 2002, we have been the main sponsor of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania festival – one of the largest classical music festivals in Germany. Furthermore, since 2006, we have made it possible for approximately 8,000 Rostock students to visit the "Concerts for Teens" event as part of the Rostock School Music Week. The North German Philharmonic Orchestra of Rostock plays a series of concerts with the aim of inspiring students aged 11 and over with a love of classical music. In addition to this commitment, we also energetically promote the dramatic arts and support the Rostock Volkstheater.
BIG ON SPORTS
Our sports sponsorees, the AIDA Sports Crew, notch up top performances every year in the disciplines of rowing, cycling, football, golf, hockey, and marathon. These sponsorees include Marie-Louise Dräger, the lightweight rower. Since 2010, and in conjunction with the Rostock Olymp Club, we have been supporting this two-time world and European champion on her course for success at the 2012 London Olympics. She is an outstanding ambassador for us, since sports represent a key part of the AIDA world. And as a particular highlight for our guests, top-flight athletes from the AIDA Sports Crew regularly travel on one of our ships, offering them personal training sessions.
