CAMPAIGN: Spring into Service

CONTENT: Press Release

ATLANTA, April 5, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Today, The Home Depot® Foundation launched the inaugural Spring into Service campaign, a seven-week initiative to complete dozens of Spring projects for U.S. military veterans and the facilities that serve them. This effort is part of the Foundation’s $80 million commitment to veterans’ housing over five years.

During the campaign, which runs from The Home Depot’s Spring Black Friday (April 5) through Memorial Day (May 27), Team Depot, the company’s associate-led volunteer force, will update, rejuvenate and beautify veterans’ homes and facilities in cooperation with local and national nonprofits across the country. From building wheelchair ramps and accessible decks, to cleaning and painting to planting flowers and shrubs, Home Depot associates will use their home improvement skills to make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country:

  • Chicago, IL: 60 volunteers are working with the Wounded Heroes Foundation to repair and landscape home of 10 veterans.
  • Long Beach, CA: More than 100 volunteers will partner with U.S.VETS to create a healing garden for female veterans and their families.
  • Savannah, GA: 100 volunteers will provide interior and exterior renovations and landscaping to the American Legion Post 500.

“Spring into Service is part of our larger effort to ensure that every veteran has a safe and comfortable place to call home,” said Kelly Caffarelli, president of The Home Depot Foundation. “We hope that these Spring beautification and safety projects will provide all the veterans we serve – men and women, young and old, able bodied and physically challenged - with a sense of optimism and tranquility.”
