KINGSPORT, Tenn., October 9, 2012 /3BL Media/ – Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips has declared Wednesday, October 10, ENERGY STAR® Day. The proclamation marks the 20th anniversary of ENERGY STAR® and commends citizens for saving energy and protecting the environment.

Mayor Phillips cited Kingsport citizens for continuing to reduce greenhouse emissions by taking energy-saving actions in their homes such as switching to ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs, fixtures and appliances. These actions support the mayor’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and maintain secure, safe, and affordable energy resources for citizens.

While presenting a copy of the proclamation to Godefroy Motte, Eastman’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Mayor Phillips stated, “The City of Kingsport is proud to join Eastman Chemical Company, a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, in celebrating EPA’s first national ENERGY STAR Day. We understand the importance of energy efficiency and educating citizens on energy-saving actions.” said Mayor Phillips.

Eastman recently held its second energy fair, an ENERGY STAR Day event. Eastman’s corporate Energy Manager Sharon Nolen added, ”While Eastman has a strong energy management program that is helping the company save energy, we also see the importance of engaging employees in activities like the energy fair that provides them with information to save energy at home. If we all do our part, we can change the world for the better.”
