Last July, SAP introduced an innovative international corporate program called the SAP Social Sabbatical where “high-potential” employees volunteered their skills to support non-government, social entrepreneur or non-profit organizations and expand their leadership skills. The program is scaling fast. While 30 high potential employees were selected to support projects in Brazil, India and South Africa in 2012; this year the company has expanded the initiative to include China as a fourth country and increase participants to 50 employees from around the world. Other changes are designed to increase and measure volunteers’ impact and strengthen their leadership capabilities. This year’s program will also being cultivating longer-term partnerships with clients,  creating a standardized framework to understand volunteers’ effect and provide intensive coaching to participants to reflect their learning and integrate it into their career paths.
