Civic 50 Celebrates Company’s Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

St. Louis, Mo., December 18, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (Nasdaq:  SIAL) was named for the second year running to The Civic 50, a national ranking that recognizes the most community-minded companies in the U.S.  Based on a survey conducted by the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC), a non-profit organization that champions civic leadership, and Points of Light, a non-partisan volunteer organization, The Civic 50, is the only survey and ranking system whose sole focus is corporate involvement in communities.

The Civic 50 specifically examines community engagement and how companies align corporate social responsibility practices with their core business competencies.  The highest ranked materials company on this year’s list, Sigma-Aldrich, was evaluated using several criteria, including financial and human resources applied to civic improvement, internal and external resources activated to maximize community impact, how community engagement activities support business interests, how broadly community engagement is supported and institutionalized within its policies, systems and incentives, and the social and business value measurements of its engagement programs.

“The results of this year’s Civic 50 survey show that even the most civically engaged companies are doing more to make community engagement a top priority and a permanent aspect of their business strategy,” said Michael Weiser, chairman of the Board, National Conference on Citizenship, and Neil Bush, chairman of the Board, Points of Light, in a joint statement. “These 50 companies are showing others in the private sector how to boost the bottom line and make the world a better place.”
