Private Sector Can Play Critical Role in Easing World Hunger
One of every nine people in the world is hungry. Globally, hunger trend lines are moving in the wrong direction for the third consecutive year, with new evidence indicating a rise in world hunger to an estimated 821 million people, up from approximately 804 million last year. This latest assessment confirms the ongoing threat to food security and development gains across much of the planet.

Second Annual National Box Tops for Education Week Kicks Off
As kids return to the classroom, schools and teachers often scramble to gather the supplies and equipment they need. Too often, gaps in funding force schools to make difficult decisions, leaving important items unfunded.

Saving Every Drop
Capturing rain water for irrigation is not a new idea. In fact, the Romans perfected the technique and were the innovators of their time, harvesting rain water for irrigation and other uses with simple to advanced concepts. Most of these models have not changed much over the centuries, and continue to be used today around the globe, ranging from multi-thousand-gallon cisterns to 55-gallon drum rain barrels. The idea of collecting rain water surfaced while our team at General Mills brainstormed ways to manage storm water runoff using simple storm water retention and pollution prevention techniques to protect endangered wetlands.

Generation Good: Meet 5 Students Changing the Future of Food - and the World
Generation Z – also known as Post-Millennials, iGen and Plurals, among others – is a new wave of 60 million young people that we're just getting to know. They are true digital natives and the most diverse and multicultural generation we've seen in the U.S. Researchers have deemed them as individualists, realists and more globally-minded. However you define them, one thing is for certain – they are change-makers.

Making Moments of Good
From a donation that helped make a dream come true for a high school marching band to thanking military service members with care packages, General Mills, Cheerios and Walmart just wrapped up “Moments of Good.” The campaign, from January through March, allowed Walmart and Cheerios to create one million special moments for people shopping in the retailer’s U.S. stores and within their surrounding communities.

Lessons Learned From My Trip to Africa
Never did I imagine that a brief trip to Africa could have such a profound impact. In the course of just a few days, I learned how the work of Partners in Food Solutions (PFS) is improving the food value chain across Africa and how that work is also improving livelihoods in the most surprising ways. While my time in Africa opened my eyes to levels of material need I’d not seen before, it also filled my heart with awe at the power of human resilience.

Empowering West African Women Through Sustainable Agriculture
General Mills knows that empowering women and girls is crucial for communities to fully flourish.

In the world’s poorest communities, women and girls typically bear the brunt of poverty. When families struggle to grow enough food to eat or earn enough money to send all their kids to school, it’s the girls who are often the last to eat and first to be kept home from school.

Helping Kids Thrive in the Classroom
Can you imagine paying attention to an algebra lesson first thing in the morning with a growling, churning stomach?

Sadly, millions of children in the U.S. don’t eat breakfast because there simply isn’t enough food at home.

As part of the General Mills Foundation’s effort to end hunger by increasing food security, General Mills has partnered with No Kid Hungry and Food Research & Action Center.
