GENEVA, February 15, 2018 /3BL Media/ -- Global electricity leader State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) has today joined nearly 200 forward-thinking companies as the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

A Fortune Global 500 company, SPIC is one of China’s leading power generators and operators, an integrated energy group with power as its core. By connecting with WBCSD’s network of forward-thinking businesses, across a variety of sectors, SPIC can deliver real impact in global corporate sustainability.

Mr. LIU Zhan, SPIC’s Chief International Business Officer, stated: “We are delighted to join WBCSD and look forward to exploring innovative sustainable development solutions together. We wish to share corporate practices in sustainability with member companies and participate in WBCSD projects, in a bid to effectively improve our environmental track record and corporate citizenship practices.”

WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker said “Engagement from leading Chinese corporations is essential if we are to meet the ambitious targets set out in the Paris climate agreement and deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals. SPIC has already committed to sustainability across its operations, with clean energy accounting for 45% of its total installed capacity. I’m excited to see what SPIC can achieve, and the influence it will have, by working globally with almost 200 other like-minded companies.”

Headquartered in Beijing, SPIC employs 140,000 people across 41 countries. SPIC becomes WBCSD’s fifth Chinese member company and its ninth global electricity-industry member.
