OMAHA, Neb., Dec. 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ – ConAgra Foods, Inc., (NYSE: CAG) announced today that nine locations have earned ENERGY STAR certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is helping to mark the 15th anniversary of this recognition program. This year’s class of ENERGY STAR certified facilities include two earning recognition for the first time: the Company’s Lamb Weston potato facility in American Falls, Idaho and cookie facility in Ogden, Utah.  ConAgra Foods became involved with EPA’s ENERGY STAR program in 2008 and since doubled the number of locations earning ENERGY STAR certification.

"ConAgra Foods is pleased to help EPA celebrate 15 years of ENERGY STAR certified buildings,” said Marcella Thompson, director, Sustainable Development, ConAgra Foods.  "Earning ENERGY STAR certification recognizes our employees’ commitment to operating as efficiently as possible. They have not only delivered energy and cost savings, but have helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions – three things that give us reason to celebrate.”

Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR are verified to perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.  They use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and are responsible for 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

ConAgra Foods’ 2014 ENERGY STAR recipients include:

  • American Falls, Idaho
  • Ogden, Utah
  • Park Rapids, Minn.
  • Quincy, Wash.
  • Richland, Wash.
  • Ripon, Wis.
  • South Beloit, Ill.
  • Tonawanda, N.Y.
  • Warden, Wash.

“What we’re really celebrating this year are the achievements of the businesses and organizations that work every day to manage their building’s energy use, “ said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “Together, their top-performing properties have achieved significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions as well as cost savings for our cities, our schools, and the businesses that power America’s economy.”

Since 1999, more than 24,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants have earned EPA’s ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. As of the end of 2013, they’ve prevented more than 40 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions and saved more than $3 billion on utility bills.
