RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., January 8, 2016 /3BL Media/ – The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD), one of the leading water providers in the region, has partnered with Arrowhead® Brand Mountain Spring Water, a Nestlé Waters North America, Inc. (Nestlé Waters) brand produced and sold mainly in California, to construct a groundwater treatment project within the Cucamonga groundwater basin that will increase the availability and reliability of local water supplies.

“Our area continues to face severe drought and we need to find new ways to meet the need for water,” said Martin Zvirbulis, CVWD General Manager. “That’s why we are extremely pleased to pursue this new water supply opportunity with the help of Arrowhead. The value of local water supplies cannot be overstated and the more water we can develop locally, the more diverse our water supply portfolio becomes.”

“Arrowhead’s investment has a direct benefit to the community: it reduces our reliance on more expensive sources of water imported from Northern California and it will help offset a significant portion of the project’s cost,” said Zvirbulis.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $4.7 million, of which Nestlé Waters has pledged a total of $1 million dollars over the next eight years, beginning in 2015. CVWD will be responsible for managing, constructing, and operating the project.

The groundwater treatment project will take place at an existing well site within CVWD’s service area. Leveraging state of the art water treatment systems to remove historical agricultural contaminants, this project is expected to produce an additional 237 million gallons of available clean drinking water in the area each year.

“With 130 employees residing in Cucamonga Valley and more than 1,200 employees across the state, it’s important that we do what we can to help support the development of local water sources,” said Larry Lawrence, the Natural Resource Manager for Arrowhead. “This groundwater treatment project is an example of Arrowhead’s commitment to water stewardship in the communities where we live and work.”

This project is one of several partnerships between CVWD and Arrowhead® Brand Mountain Spring Water. The company has been a long-time customer of CVWD’s spring water, and since 2005 a sponsor of CVWD’s educational Environmental Learning Center, which provides resources to teachers and hands-on activities for local children, and supporter of CVWD’s annual Kids Environmental Festival, Earth Day, poster contest and internships.

Arrowhead is also a partner and sponsor of the Cucamonga Foothills Preservation Alliance (CFPA) a group working to restore and maintain Cucamonga Canyon, and over the last five years has supplied bottled water donations to community clean-up events in the North Etiwanda Preserve, a habitat conservation area in San Bernardino County.

“Arrowhead’s commitment to environmental stewardship and continued dedication to the communities where it operates have made it an asset in Cucamonga Valley’s restoration program,” said Zvirbulis.
