MGM Resorts International is one of the nation’s “2014 Best Companies for Diversity” -- ranking 16th out of 45 companies, up from 22nd in 2013--according to HispanicBusiness Media, a leading publishing and information services company for Hispanic professionals and entrepreneurs. MGM Resorts is the only integrated resort, hospitality and entertainment company to have a ranking.

Also, MGM Resorts is one of 17 companies that have been on the “Best Companies” list since the ranking started 10 years ago.

“I speak on behalf of our 62,000 employees when I say we are proud to be on this list,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. “We firmly believe our commitment to diversity and inclusion makes MGM Resorts a stronger company; that’s why it is a pillar that supports and guides our mission, vision and values.”

The Best Companies for Diversity list ranks companies according to their engagement of Hispanics and other minorities in five different categories: board and leadership representation; recruitment, retention and promotion; marketing and community outreach; and supplier diversity. Other companies include American Express Co., The Coca-Cola Co., and Kellogg Company.

In 2000, MGM Resorts International became the gaming industry's first company to implement a voluntary diversity initiative. The company has since increased its number of Hispanic employees and business partners. Highlights of the initiative relative to the Hispanic community include:

  • As of 2013, Hispanics comprised more than 32 percent of MGM Resorts’ total workforce; more than 14 percent of MGM Resorts managers are Hispanic.
  • In 2013, MGM Resorts spent more than $35 million in business with certified Hispanic-owned vendors and contractors.
  • The Company offers several training and management development programs, including ESL (English as a Second Language) classes in order to recruit and develop employees. MGM Resorts also sponsors a Hispanic Network Group which provides employees with mutual support and professional development resources and community involvement opportunities.
  • MGM Resorts has established partnerships with numerous Hispanic national and local organizations, such as the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, National Council of La Raza, Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting.
