Philadelphia, PA, June 3, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, will unveil Rutherford's Vascular Surgery, 8th Edition, a comprehensive two-volume reference, at the 2014 Vascular Annual Meeting in Boston, June 5 - 7.

The thoroughly revised reference contains the most current evidence-based vascular and endovascular procedures and techniques available today, thanks to contributions made by more than 280 vascular surgery experts. Elsevier will hold a Q&A session with the authors at its booth (#1105) on June 5 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The Society for Vascular Surgery, which hosts the Vascular Annual Meeting, has collaborated with Elsevier to publish this new edition of Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery. The new edition is now available, and Elsevier is currently accepting orders.

Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery is the definitive reference for physicians who care for patients with vascular disease,” said Jack L. Cronenwett, M.D., Professor of Surgery, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and the book’s Co-Editor. “Many expert authors joined forces to integrate information on medical, endovascular and surgical treatments with updated insights on diagnostic techniques, decision-making and vascular biology.”

This new edition of Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery features 164 chapters organized into 27 sections, including basic science, clinical and laboratory evaluation, vascular imaging, atherosclerotic risk factors, perioperative care, bleeding and clotting, arterial occlusive and aneurysmal diseases, venous thromboembolism, and venous insufficiency and occlusion. New to the 8th Edition are chapters on dialysis catheters, endovascular management of aortic branches, along with updated coverage of medical management, endovascular procedures, open surgical techniques, and all modalities of vascular imaging.

“The new edition and e-format makes it fast and easy for physicians to find techniques and approaches for endovascular applications, vascular access, imaging and non-operative management,” said K. Wayne Johnston, M.D., FRCSC, Professor of Surgery, University of Toronto, and the book’s Co-Editor. “Full-color layout and images, plus annotated key references and bibliographies, help clinicians understand clinical and operative findings and master operative technique.”

A significant highlight of the 8th Edition is the introduction of an enhanced eBook available on the newly re-launched Elsevier’s Expert Consult platform. The e-book offers search, rich media and social and community features. Physicians can interact with content through multimedia features, self-assessment questions, references, abstracts, and procedural videos. An editorial board will insert new content into relevant chapters to make this a “living textbook.”

Further, articles published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery will be referenced each month in the chapter to which they apply, so that e-Book readers will have access to the latest reference material. Integrated with the eBook will be features like enhanced images, self-assessment questions, updated references and abstracts, and procedural video.  Additionally Rutherford’s will be available to major medical institutions through Elsevier’s ClinicalKey platform, which delivers access to clinical content, including more than 500 medical journals, 100 books, drug information, guidelines, MEDLINE and ExitCare patient education.

“We’re proud to partner with Elsevier on the latest edition of Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery,” said Julie Ann Freischlag, M.D., President of the Society for Vascular Surgery. “The release of this new edition supports our joint efforts to bring vascular specialists the highest quality news, information and expert guidance on vascular conditions and treatment. Resources like Rutherford’s 8th edition promise to enhance care outcomes, quality, safety and cost management opportunities for vascular disease patients.”
