Chevron will expand its Fuel Your School program to nine communities this fall, up from two communities in 2011. The program will provide funding for classroom projects developed by public school teachers and posted to Donorschoose.org. Chevron will donate $1 for every eight-gallon or larger fill up during October in communities in California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas, and Utah, up to a total contribution of $5 million.

NextEra Energy is selling $650 million in equity units to Goldman Sachs, Barclays, and Citigroup. The deal comes after the company agreed to a similar $600 million equity sale in May to Bank of America’s Merrill Lynch unit. Next Era owns Florida Power and Light, and is the largest renewable energy generator in the U.S.

Hydro One is beginning the tunneling phase of a $115 million transmission cable project in Toronto. The Midtown Electricity Infrastructure Renewal Project will refurbish an existing infrastructure, the first underground cable that was laid in the 1950s.
