On Monday, May 16, more than 120 people celebrated the opening of Booz Allen’s new Innovation Center in the heart of Washington, D.C. To mark the opening, Booz Allen brought together thought leaders from industry, government, and the innovation community for the panel discussion, “Smart. Safe. Connected. Shaping the Future of Transportation.” Panelists included:

  • Matthew George, Founder and CEO, Bridj
  • Chris Gerdes, Chief Innovation Officer, US Department of Transportation
  • Jeffrey Lush, Chief Technologist, US Federal Agencies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise
  • Erin Moseley, Smart Cities and Internet of Things Expert, Education and Public Sector Specialist, Intel Corporation
  • Michael Spierto, Director of Federal Affairs, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers

Panelists shared their thoughts on transportation’s role in connected society, big data, security, and emerging technologies. Key takeaways from the panel were:

  • Public-Private Partnerships: Public-private partnerships need to marry the efforts of policy makers who create transportation standards with the private sector who have the resources and scale to produce leading-edge transportation solutions
  • Private and Public Sector Accountability: It is the responsibility of both the private and public sector to create transportation opportunities that get citizens from Point A to Point B efficiently, safely, sustainably and affordably regardless of income, location, or physical ability
  • Big Data: Data is shaping the future of transportation. The data found in vehicles, lamp posts, and transportation can be used to create a more sustainable place to live and a better environment for citizens.

After the panel, attendees had the opportunity to explore Booz Allen’s Innovation Center, view demonstrations of new technology products Booz Allen is creating, and speak with teams across the firm’s defense, commercial, and innovation groups who are working on innovative client projects. The Booz Allen Innovation Center is a free-flowing collaborative space where employees, clients, sponsors, and the innovation community can converge to inspire ideas, build new technologies, grow their networks, and work together to solve the toughest problems of today and the future.
