Founder of Bloomberg LP Mike Bloomberg Talks Philanthropy

In a recent article in The New York Times, Michael R. Bloomberg - founder of Bloomberg LP - discusses his approach to philanthropy. Bloomberg has already donated $3.3 billion to charity and Bloomberg Philanthropies has been ranked among the most innovative organizations in the country. He has been willing to finance programs that could be controversial if they fail because he is willing to take risks and try new things. In the article, Bloomberg discusses his efforts to target area's that are getting little attention; "You want to do things where your money matters,...I’d argue another gift to fight a disease that has a lot of the world’s attention and people are focusing on it is not where I want us to go." To date he has donated $3.3 billion and intends to increase his giving efforts.

His foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, has been ranked among the most innovative organizations in the country and he has been willing to finance programs that could be controversial if they failed.
