June 30, 2015 /3BL Media/ - The Gila Valley iTeachAZ site, a collaborative initiative between Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and Eastern Arizona College (EAC), was awarded a $450,000 grant from the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation.

The goal of this initiative is to increase access to high quality teacher preparation programs outside of Maricopa and Pima counties in Arizona, giving students at rural community colleges access to the state’s top teacher preparation program without leaving their home communities.

The investment is part of a national collaborative called 100Kin10, a multi-sector effort to prepare, deploy and support 100,000 excellent STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) teachers in the United States over the next 10 years. In addition to training highly qualified STEM and secondary teachers in the Gila Valley, the program will ultimately serve as a model that could be replicated in other communities around the state in the coming years.
