April 27, 2018 /3BL Media/ - Freeport-McMoRan’s Bisbee Copper Queen Mine in Arizona was selected to receive the Interstate Mining Compact Commission’s (IMCC) 2018 National Reclamation Awards in the Noncoal Category.

Initiated in 1964, the IMCC’s primary purpose has been to encourage programs which will protect, conserve and improve the usefulness of natural resources. The Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee has been on care and maintenance status since activities ceased in 1975.

During the last 10 years, Freeport has engaged in numerous projects in the Bisbee area designed to mitigate long-term impacts of historic mining operations, including stockpile reclamation, stormwater management, soil remediation, and groundwater mitigation. The total reclamation surface area is approximately 1,000 acres.
