Chevrolet Volt Achieves 100,000 Sales in the United States
Chevrolet is announcing the sale of 100,000 Volts, giving those owners a no-compromise electric driving experience with a plug-in vehicle offering an EPA-estimated 53 miles of electric vehicle range and a total range of 420 miles between gasoline fill-ups or full recharges*.

GM Expands Autonomous Vehicle Testing
GM’s Cruise Automation team is now testing the Chevrolet Bolt EV autonomous vehicle on roads in Scottsdale, Arizona. The state of Arizona supports such research and development, and provides a fitting environment to test in high temperature and desert conditions. Testing is also underway in San Francisco.

General Motors and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) will reveal a Chevrolet Colorado-based fuel cell electric vehicle in October at the fall meeting of the Association of the United States Army in Washington, D.C.

RESOURCE PRESERVATION

Capturing Rainwater Will Save GM Plant Millions of Dollars   
A new project to capture stormwater at GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly – home of the Chevrolet Volt – is slated to save the plant nearly $2 million every year. The initiative, two years in the making, now allows the plant to reuse rainwater for manufacturing processes throughout the 4 million square foot facility.

2016 Leadership in Environment Award   
Greg Martin, executive director of global public policy at General Motors; Margaret O'Gorman, president of the Wildlife Habitat Council; and Kevin M. Butt, chief environmental officer at Toyota accepted the Leadership in Environment Award at the 2016 Keystone Leadership Awards on June 8.

WASTE REDUCTION

GM Recycles 2 Million Flint Water Bottles into Fleece
General Motors is adding 2 million water bottles from Flint residents into its Do Your Part water bottle recycling initiative. The company partnered with Schupan Recycling to collect the bottles. The plastic is washed, flaked and turned into fleece to make three products: Chevrolet Equinox V-6 engine covers, insulation for The Empowerment Plan coats for the homeless, and air filters for GM plants.

General Motors created its first Student Sustainability Advisory Council this year to begin a new dialogue on sustainability. Composed of five graduate students from MIT, Penn State, Georgia Tech, University of Michigan and Stanford, the council provides fresh perspectives on sustainability at GM.

Teen Driving, Not Sex, Drugs or Academic Performance, Tops Parents’ List of Concerns
According to a Harris Poll survey commissioned by Chevrolet, more parents with teens worry about their child driving (55 percent) more than any other area of parental stress. In add ition to its suite of available active and passive safety features, Chevrolet offers Teen Driver Technology on 10 of its 2017 cars, trucks and SUVs. Chevrolet’s Teen Driver includes an industry-first in-vehicle report card that shows how the teen drove and provides a way for parents to discuss best practices.
