Goldcorp Accelerates the Changing Future of Mining with #DisruptMining 2019

Goldcorp is pleased to present #DisruptMining 2019, co-hosted by KPMG. The mining industry’s innovation accelerator challenge and live finale event will return on March 3, 2019, during the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto.

Now in its third year, #DisruptMining aims to encourage new ideas, spawn new technologies, and tackle some of the mining industry’s biggest challenges – and opportunities!

The #DisruptMining challenge offers entrepreneurs a platform to bring disruptive and exponential technologies to the sector, whether it’s unlocking exploration opportunities; finding operational and production efficiencies; reducing the environmental footprint and delivering on sustainability commitments; or developing alternative ways to finance mines and capital projects. #DisruptMining incentivizes people with exponential technologies and rogue ideas, with a CAD$1 million capital opportunity to bring their disruption to mining.

Finalists will pitch their competing innovations to a “shark-tank”- style panel of cross-industry titans at the live finale event. More than 500 mining executives, investors and financiers will be in attendance, each looking for that one revolutionary idea that will get them to the future of mining, faster.

Call for Disruptors across all industries

Do you have a concept that could change the future of mining? If you are interested in pitching your idea at the #DisruptMining challenge and “shark-tank” style live event, submit your concept at https://disruptmining.com. Submissions will be accepted until November 5, 2018, at 8.59pm PST/11.59pm EST.

#DisruptMining 2019 Submission Categories are:

1. Mining Transformation: Operate and manage our mines with increased productivity.

Mining transformation covers innovation on everything from how the mine operates to how the mine is managed. It’s time for mines to rethink how they do their everyday work.

2. Sustainability Transformation: Move towards zero water and sustainable energy usage.

Improvements in sustainability can include a broad range of solutions but minimizing or eliminating the use of non-renewable resources is a global imperative for all responsible industries, and essential to minimizing cost and social risk.

3. Metallurgy Transformation: Decrease the mass, energy, water and chemical intensity required in metallurgical processes.

Generally, anything that decreases the mass, energy, water and chemical intensity required in metallurgical processes would progress efforts around productive and responsible stewardship of resources.

4. Digital Transformation: Create digital intelligence with new applications and integrated interfaces.

How we can integrate technology into every part of the mining process and have various data input work together in a cohesive, integrated system. What systems or data are missing in the extraction process that would revolutionize the way we do things?

5. Geology Transformation: Improve mineral mapping and measurement.

Improved accuracy in geological information would drastically de-risk projects and open a major black-box of the extraction process.

 6. "Go Rogue”

Is your idea so disruptive it can’t be allocated into one of these categories? Then this is the section for you – our wild card. Surprise us with your rogue and bold idea; we want to hear them all!
