ICC Launches a Major Update of its Charter to Promote Business Sustainability

Several research studies in recent years have shown that companies with high ratings on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors frequently outperform the market in the medium and long term, and have a lower cost of debt and equity. Business sustainability has emerged as a key source of competitive advantage in today’s economy.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has now launched a radical update of its Business Charter to reflect this new reality. The third edition of the ICC Charter supports a more holistic approach to sustainability, drawing on the expertise, experience and good practices of a wide range of global companies and business associations across all sectors.
